The primary role of the UN Decade Ocean Committee Ireland is to serve as a central hub which links and engages national level actors participating in the Ocean Decade. Unlike the more formal governance and coordination structures of the Ocean Decade, National Decade Committees are voluntary in nature.
The following are some of the expected roles and responsibilities that the UN Decade Ocean Committee Ireland can fulfil:
- Supporting national members in the co-design and co-delivery of Decade Actions
- Mobilizing resources and contributions
- Engaging with National Decade Committees operating in other countries
- Communications, outreach and raising awareness
